Important matter
Rusted frame which taillight assembly is mounted to
We own a 2011 Chevy Silverado. Recently there was a problem with the taillight on the left side of the truck.
Upon removal of the taillight, it was noted that the metal behind the taillight was totally rusted out. Im being told that this is because it was not painted or sprayed with a thick enough coat of protectant. This was our first Chevrolet truck after switching from Ford. It has been very disheartening to find that the truck, although it drives great and has a good strong motor is rusting due to the metal behind the taillight assembly not being covered well enough with a rust inhibitor prior to painting.
I have pics. After we saw the rusted out left side we removed the light assembly on the right side and found the same thing.
We were looking at purchasing the RST but I am thinking if we do, well need to have the taillight assembly removed prior to purchase to see if it has already started to rust while sitting on the dealership lots. After all, thats a lot of money to pay for a vehicle that is rusting before you drive it off the lot.
User's recommendation: Check behind your taillight assembly for rusting frame rust

Ladies and Gentlemen, I bought the truck with one main specific reason, to haul a slide in camper. Initially I loved the truck, but as I started to prep the truck to haul my camper, I quickly realized how poorly thought out the engineering of this truck is.
In order to tow a fifth wheel camper or haul a slide in camper the tailgate needs to be removed. Upon removing the tailgate all the cameras on the truck are rendered in-operable. Before buying the truck I was impressed seeing many TV commercials saying what an incredibly sophisticated camera system they have now in 2020. My cameras pull up a black screen with a error on it and nothing works with any cameras?
My dealer has now told me I more than likely will damage the whole system because the weather and elements will destroy the open wiring, because I have removed my tailgate, when the truck should have been designed to have the tailgate removed. Dealer has also said as far as they know there is no fix coming for this and I will have to live with it? My second issue is, once the truck it is parked for a while will start to flash the trailer taillights every ten seconds. This is part of the theft deterrent device programmed into the trailer wiring.
So it can detect if the trailer has been stolen and will sound the alarm! LOL So I'm going camping and going to sit and watch my taillights flash every ten sec. all weekend? GM is calling this a feature, and I will call it what it really is and that's torture.
The truck is the biggest 80+ thousand dollar mistake I have ever made in my life. The truck was released last Sept. and it is almost May. I started in early March inquiring for help at my local dealership.
No one ever got back with me? I'm sick to my stomach over the amount of money I have spent to get the truck to this point and knowing I will have to start over with a new brand soon. I ask now and all I get is excuses revolving around the virus? If these two issues can't be addressed I don't want the truck anymore and will never buy another GM product in my life.
GM has let me down and so has the local dealer. I have bought 2 new trucks from GM in last 2 years over $160,000.00 and planned on ordering a new C8 mid engine Z06 Corvette, and I'm a GM stock holder.
I'm asking for someone to reach out to me let me know they are aware of the issues and they are working them out and a fix is in the works for both of these issues. If these two issues cant be fixed the truck is a complete fail and I don't want it anymore!

Verified ReviewerBeware when purchasing used vehicles
DO NOT BUY A USED CHEVY!!!!The first time I contacted Chevy, I was told that it was possible to get the parts at cost and Chevy would work with the dealer about the labor costs. The second Chevy response was that because I did not go to a dealer there was nothing they...
The purchase of this SUV was record-breaking in that it was my first SUV and the newest vehicle I had ever owned.
Within a year and a half I learned that GM believes that the engines in their vehicles can only be expected to last 5 years and that it is too bad, so sad that the engine in my vehicle stopped working.
Anyone I spoke to found it inconceivable that a properly serviced vehicle would need to have the engine replaced at less than 0142100K miles.
GM believes that since I did not have one of their dealers handle the repairs for my vehicles, there is nothing they can do as only their dealership can accurately diagnosis the cause of the engine failure and due to the age of the vehicle (barely 6 years old) it is solely my responsibility.
The non-GM explanation as to the cause of the engine needing to be replaced was that the number one cylinder had grenaded damaging the electrode on spark plug.
Preferred solution: Get the word out to warn others.
Buy Toyota’s and not poorly made chevys
2009 Yukon 5.3 motor junk after 129000 miles had to put a new motor in it
I have a 2008 Malibu front head light bulb needs replaced you have to take the front bumper off to change it
2005 Chevy suburban bulletproof 290000 miles Everything pretty much original on it I had it since 97,000 miles just regular upkeep
2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD bullet proof 210,000 miles No issues
Just seems like the newer Chevys are Junk would not recommend buying stick with Toyota or Nissan
the last Nissan I had was 1985 pick up truck I put 350,000 miles On it plus no problems
The new engineers for Chevy that come up and design these vehicles are idiots
we need to all get together and open up a go fund me page to get them all fixed, so they cant reproduce and if they did manage to figure out how to reproduce any offspring get them fixed so they cant reproduce it would make the World a lot better place
I will never buy Chevy again I will make sure my kids and their kids never buy Chevy's again
Never again
