Chevy (Chevrolet) Vehicles are ***
What follows is my update on this issue. gm never contacted me about this issue. They just ignored it.
More on that later.
After some further investigation (Google & Youtube) I find out this is a common problem with gm large SUV's and Pickup trucks. The mechanism that unlocks the spare tire and lets it come down - seizes up over time, and won't let the spare tire come down.
The solution is simple - periodically spray some anti-seize (WD-40 or CRC) on the latch mechanism, to keep it working properly.
However, gm doesn't tell you this. They just let seize up, and leave you (the motorist) stranded on the side of the road - unable to change your flat tire.
How many motorists have been left stranded in this manner? I'm sure it's in the millions. So far that's fairly typical for gm. How much can we screw the paying motorist - with poor engineering, expensive parts and service, and, *** vehicles? No Integrity! The heading for my original post was - Chevy vehicles are "***." Unfortunately pissedconsumer didn't like that word, and deleted it. So I'm going to try a few others. Chevy vehicles are "horrible." Chevy vehicles are "terrible." Chevy vehicles are "poorly engineered." Chevy vehicles are "unreliable." Do yourself a favor and buy vehicles from another manufacturer. You'll save yourself a ton of heartache and money. Thanks for reading.

The diesel version is actually available in the European market, but still does not meet EPA in the USA, like most European diesel engines
